About Oratio

Master the art of speaking confidently with your personal speech coach, Oratio.
Whether you talk too much or too little, too loud or too quiet, too fast or too slow, too many "uhm"s or "eh"s - Oratio is here to help you!

Oratio's inception

The founder was at a management team building where participants were asked to share their strengths and weaknesses. Notably, several in the group mentioned aspects of their (public) speaking as their weakness. Later, when asked which invention everyone wished they had, the idea of Oratio popped up in the founder's head and he shared it with the group. When several in senior management went on to say they wanted Oratio, the seed was planted and the rest is history. By the way, Oratio is latin for speech.

How does Oratio work?

Oratio uses an open source artificial intelligence model and edge computing to analyze your voice. This allows Oratio to process and analyze your voice much quicker than cloud computing, and is how Oratio is able to give feedback in realtime.

Another huge benefit of edge computing is privacy: Since all the processing and analysis take place on your device, you never exchange any data with us or anyone else. Therefore, you don't have to worry about your own personal data.

Finally, because Oratio only processes your voice, you never need anyone's consent to use Oratio. At least according to most countries' laws... This is why we require that you read a standard paragraph to Oratio in order to use its services; Oratio needs to identify your unique voice and not confuse it for someone else's. This is usually done in less than a minute. However, depending on background noise, you might have to give it a few tries.

Bonus benefit: Oratio works perfectly fine offline; you don't need cellular connection nor wifi.

What can Oratio do?

Currently, Oratio can assist you with amount (how much/little you speak), pace (how fast/slow you speak), volume (how loud/quiet you speak), and filler words (e.g. "uhm" and "eh"). Oratio provides a report of its analysis after each session so that you can keep track of your speech pattern and progress. You can even set your own goals and Oratio will let you know how you are doing. This is gamification at its best!A typical report consist of: when the session took place (time and date), where (geolocation*) duration of session (hours/minutes), share of duration in excess of threshold (e.g. "10% of your speaking was too loud"), and recommendations on improvement areas to focus on next.In addition, Oratio can give you instant feedback if your speech exceeds thresholds you set. Oratio uses haptic feedback, which are subtle vibrations; just enough for you to notice and not disturb anyone else in the room. Here are two personal examples:Example 1: If I speak too fast for more than 15 seconds (I set my threshold at 170 words per minute), Oratio will give me a long vibration followed by a short vibration.Example 2: If I speak too loud for more than 5 seconds (over 68 dB), Oratio will give me three short vibrations. We recommend beginners use Oratio's smart thresholds until you become familiar with your own preferences.*Geolocation is optional
